The pallet is a support platform for the handling of goods by specific means (forklifts and pallet trucks), for their transport and storage. It is also known as a platform.
The components that characterise the pallets, according to the reference standard UNI EN ISO 445, are the presence of planes, joined by beams and blocks that vary in thickness and allow the passage of the forks of the elevators. The blocks are connected to the planks by means of perpendicularly arranged crossbars.
A pallet is also characterised by beveled invitations to facilitate the passage of forks, forking space, fins for lifting by crane, and edges, protrusions of the plane, to hold the particular load. Designed by the Americans during the Second World War for a rapid movement of materials by forklift trucks, today the pallet is a tool used in civil operatons for the movement of goods around the world.
